IEC 80079-34
Implementation of a Quality System for Explosive Atmospheres
ISO/IEC 80079-34:2018
ISO/IEC 80079-34:2018 is a standard used to describe the application of quality systems in the manufacture or production of all electrical and non-electrical equipment or the protective systems that are often operated in explosive environments. They are termed as Ex equipment. The ISO/IEC 80079-34:2018 is a revision of standards which was published on the 30th of August 2018. All the new management system standards are required to adhere to this new framework, and the current one should also migrate accordingly.
If you need to transition to this framework, Aaron Solutions is here to provide the much-needed consultancy services. We will help address any changes to the quality management system requirements included in the new revision of the standards. We will do our very nest to ensure the transition is smooth, fast, and effective.
Aaron Solutions has the experience and knowhow on certifying manufacturers with quality systems that must comply with the set requirements of the Atex Directive and also the IECEx scheme. Under Atex, there is the Quality Assurance Notification (QAN), while the IECEx system has the Quality Assurance Report (QAR) under it. That said, in most cases, a manufacturer must gain QAN from a certifying body to be permitted to place their Atex products on the market.
What is the Atex Quality Assurance Notification (QAN?)
Atex equipment manufacturers are required to have the Quality Assurance Notification (QAN) for all category 1 and category 2 products. QAN is basically continuous monitoring of systems and processes regarding the Atex products. It’s mandatory for the manufacturers to comply with the Atex Directives according to the equipment’s designated zone, the number of units produced, and whether they already hold an ISO 9002 certificate since it tends to simplify many of the essential requirements.
An audit of the manufacturing site will be carried out, and it commonly involves an assessment of the design specifications of the equipment. The tests carried out also have to be verified together with the product documentation. Aside from that, the manufacturer should submit a copy of the quality system documentation to prove the product’s important requirements have been met. If there are any non-conformities identified, the manufacturer is allowed a specified period of time to provide corrective actions concerning the findings. The surveillance audit takes place within 18 months of certification.
What is the IECEx Quality Assessment Report (QAR)?
The IECEx certified equipment manufacturers are required to obtain a documented quality assurance system that covers their products. The manufacturers have to comply with the requirements in IEC 80079-34 as well as achieve an ISO 9001 compliant quality management system. Its more or less similar to the Atex QAN, which does not mandate an ISO 9001 certificate, but it may be invaluable if you want an easier and faster process. IECEx QAR also issues three-year validity and a surveillance audit within 18 months or 12 months if you don’t hold an ISO 9001 certification.
As a top consultancy body, we offer the best services to all clients seeking QAN and QAR certification. If you want to combine both certifications for convenience, we got you covered. Make it a point to contact us as soon as possible.
